Danny:
Sorry for not updating yesterday but as you might have read we went out drinking and I got somewhat drunk, I sang some karaoke with the Karaoke dude we recognized from the last time and the bartender gave me some strawberry tasting spirits... bad idea, so in the end Henrik tried walking me home but we got lost in the process. Somehow we were able to find our way back and get both of us in bed. The day after my head gave me one thousand promises of pain to come when I got out of bed so I took it somewhat slow.
Gomen ^^;;
Today we had newly charged batteries to we went to Yebisu garden place and walked around in some stores there, most of the stores were rich brat kind of stores so we felt somewhat out of place. After a while we went to the top floors of Yebisu Tower and ordered a 4 person lunch menu, The only thing we wanted in the menu was this thing Henrik had been telling us about over and over again called Okinomeyaki or something like that. The rest was just bonus food. Everything tasted good and it wasn't all too expensive. *success*
After the meal we decided to go to Akihabara so Björn could get his daily fix and so that I could search for a cheap laptop so I can get msn and aim working again. There are some people I haven't heard from yet so ^^;;
After Akihabara Henrik and I went to the Family mart and got some random snacks *bad idea* Japanese snacks have somewhat of an acquired taste to them and Henrik ended up eating most of them (probably out of cheer stubbornness.)
That's pretty much it I guess, take care people ^^
Henrik
Yeah, I cashed my Travelers Checks today. First tried at the Ebisu gardens, yeah, even the Japanese don't know if it should be spelled Ebisu or Yebisu, post office. They just spat on them, but in the oh so polite Japanese way. Instead we went to the Mizuho bank, there a lady greeted us with a smile and I showed her the checks, somehow she managed to keep her smile and showed me in, got me the papers I needed to sign and told me how to sign them, then turned me and my American Express travelers cheques to a poor Japanese speaking cashier. But we worked it out, all the way to me getting the money in a nice oblong envelope. Then I tried asking for more envelopes, it didn't turn out very well and we fled the premises.
Looking for Yebisu beer is simple here, Orion though is a completely other matter. Have to intensify the search. Tsingtao is just not to be had I guess. But if even the beer museum at Yebisu garden place had none, it's probably not possible.
I finally got my okonomiyaki, they are like drinking tequila, not so much for the taste as for the experience of frying your own food. We also got some sirlion and noodles, the noodles was actually the best. After some attempts we even found the BBQ sauce.
Cruising for Akibahara we went to our first Maid Cafe, we took the one furthest away from the common track, big mistake. The serving staff knew 3 words of English, between all of them. The menu was all in katakana Engrisu, so we had to make attempted guesses at what we were actually eating. By pure chance Björn pointed at the cheesecake first try, so both him and Danne took that, and ice coffee, cowards. I took the only thing consisting of Kanji, it was a banana cake. Quite decent. Unlike the coffee, it was actually the worst coffee I've ever had in Japan. A pot of day old Gevalia is what I can compare it to. But the atmosphere, read maid uniforms with contents, was very appealing, so was the merchandise, but I couldn't settle on any before we went out to the rest of Akibahara.
Cruising for laptops is hard work, but we found some that looked decent. But we are going back to conquer them another day.
